Field Trips and Medication

****Parents-please plan ahead for upcoming spring field trips.  If you have been contacted regarding missing/expired emergency medication, please get them to the nurse as soon as possible.  Students’ personal emergency medications such as an epi-pen (epinephrine auto injector) must accompany the student on all scheduled field trips. This includes only those emergency medications that the Missouri Board of Nursing has deemed allowable to delegate its administration by a non-health provider such as a teacher. The parent is responsible for providing emergency medications to the school. If the emergency medication has not been provided or is expired, the student may not attend the field trip.

IMMUNIZATIONS

****Spring break is right around the corner!  This would be a great time for 7th graders to get their required immunizations before next school year!

Missouri immunization law requires all incoming 8th graders to receive immunizations for Tdap and meningococcal meningitis.  Although Tdap (Adacel, Boostrix) has been required for several years, the meningococcal meningitis conjugate immunization (Menactra, Menveo) is a relatively new requirement.

These immunizations can be given to children as young as 11 years old. Please consult with your doctor’s office to determine if your student has already received them. If your child has not received them, please do so as soon as possible as they can be prevented from starting 8th grade in the fall as a result of non-compliance.  If your student has already received them, please send a copy of the record to the nurse’s office. Records must include the student’s name, the date of immunization, and the name of the clinic where it was administered. Immunization records must come from an agency such as a hospital, county health department or physician’s office. Shot record booklets are acceptable as long as the agency stamp is present next to the name of the vaccination. Written or verbal dates from parents are not acceptable.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter!
